A native son of San Diego, Drew Gaffney’s introduction to contact sports came early as a standout football and rugby player at Cathedral Catholic high school and the San Diego Mustangs respectively. His talent at defense and ball retention did not go overlooked as he graduated to the prestigious rugby program of UC Berkeley. Under the tutelage of Jack Clark, he established himself as a standout loose forward in a top-tier division and during his time at Cal, Gaffney helped propel the Bears to four national championships. In 2018, Gaffney earned a spot on the Legion’s inaugural season’s roster where he and fellow local rugby star Chris Turori lent their considerable weight to the Legion’s forward pack. Gaffney is honored to be able to play professional rugby in the same town where he grew up and will be a force to be reckoned with during the 2019 season.
